A significant near miss was the catalyst for the call to Fusion Safety. This organisation had used Fusion Safety for Leadership Development in a different area of the business approximately 3 years before and we were called back to provide advice and deliver a program that would expedite the way the team worked together in high-risk situations.
“We needed to unite the team and build confidence and a collaborative environment, and we needed to do it quick, as commissioning needed to continue.”
The “HeroCODE for Teams” program was selected as the most fit for purpose program and dates were set for 18 people to undertake the experiential learning phase of the program known as the “HeroCODE Masterclass.”
From the start of the program the Fusion Mentors determined that there was significant diversity within the team regarding experience. A lot of the team were young engineers. While technical competent, these individuals had not developed the confidence or skills to speak up when they observed weak signals. Step one was to develop the Courage to Act in this group. During the day long HeroCODE Masterclass, the Fusion Mentors challenged and created opportunities for these individuals to find their voice. Equally, more experienced engineers and managers learnt skills and tactics to bring out the best in people, focusing more on developing and embracing emerging leadership within the team.
After the Masterclass, the team was divided into groups of 6 people who undertook the 4-week blended learning program to embed practice around values alignment and rapport building skills, along with more training on the use of HeroCODE Operational Tactics. The remaining 12 individuals undertook the HeroCODE Tactics, course to become aware of how to use the tactics as a tool to handle the messiness of leadership in an operational setting. They learned to become a HeroCODE Tactical Team. The company found this approach so useful and practical they have booked additional HeroCODE for Team’s courses to develop the knowledge, skills and practices of the entire Engineering group.
Quotes from the program:
“A great course. It’s theme and contents, we wouldn’t be coming across anywhere else. A game changer for any workplace, when diligently adopted and practiced!”
“An all-round fantastic course. Best in-person safety/leadership session I’ve attended in my career to date. Craig, Ross and Nick care about safety and people. A worthwhile way to combine leadership and safety training.”
“The learning experience was great. I’ve learnt some tools that will help me not just in career but in life (relationship building tools). Thankyou!”
“Craig, Ross and Nick were amazing. They took us though the Hero CODE journey in an interesting way while keeping us all inspired. Keep it up guys!”
“There are many elements of this course which puts the individual outside their comfort zone. For me, this showed the situations where I needed to improve, and it has helped with that.”
